Research Description

Electrical insulator materials which will prevent the flow of current in an electrical circuit are being used since from the beginning of the science and technology of electrical phenomena. Dielectrics are insulating materials that exhibit the property of electrical polarization, thereby they modify the dielectric function of the vacuum. A major issue in thin film dielectrics is the difference between the thin film properties and those of the corresponding bulk materials. Since the dielectric properties and lattice dynamics are closely related, Raman spectroscopy provides a potentially valuable technique for the study of dielectric materials. It is highly sensitive to local structure and local symmetry. Moreover, it is a nondestructive technique, which does not require any special treatment of samples.
