Dr. Shibani Mohapatra is a distinguished plant biotechnologist and researcher whose work bridges molecular breeding, crop improvement, and environmental biotechnology.

She holds a Ph.D. in Life Sciences from the National Rice Research Institute (NRRI) and North Orissa University, where her doctoral work focused on gene stacking for submergence tolerance, bacterial blight resistance, and yield enhancement in rice variety Swarna. A recipient of the prestigious Biju Patnaik Research Fellowship, she has consistently worked on advancing rice genetics and trait integration through classical and marker-assisted breeding.

Dr. Mohapatra has authored over 25 research papers, contributed to multiple book chapters, and holds 3 patents. Her work is published in high-impact journals such as Frontiers in Plant Science, Biomolecules, and International Journal of Molecular Sciences. She also serves as a reviewer for reputed journals including Frontiers in Pharmacology, Gene, Sustainability, and Agronomy.

Her postdoctoral research at KIIT University further expanded her focus to include bioactive compound isolation and ethnobotanical studies. She has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences and was awarded Best Oral Presentation by the Royal Society of Chemistry at ESMAC‑2023.
