Abstract

This book, “Prehistory of the Khairi–Bhandan River Basin, Northern Odisha”, represents the culmination of many years of field-based research investigating the archaeological landscape of the Khairi–Bhandan River basin, located in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. The present work is itself an original presentation of data and interpretations emanating primarily from field-based investigations regarding landscapes conducted as a component of the postgraduate thesis research by the first author, Mr. Samir Maharana, with academic discussions and joint supervision by the co-authors, Dr. Basanta Kumar Mohanta and Mr. Manu Naik. Notably, the research is reflective of a merger of approaches ranging from traditional archaeological approaches to more recent geospatial approaches. These approaches examining prehistoric human adaptive strategies and material culture in an ecologically diverse and culturally rich area of Eastern India.
